The Lucky Star

America's Great Loop
This is an over view of most of the route we have and will follow. We started our trip in Houston, so we also traveled the Gulf of Mexico. We crossed Florida through Lake Okeechobee, then up the Atlantic coast to Chesapeake Bay, a side trip on the Potomac, Delaware Bay, New Jersey coast to the Hudson River. Up to this point, from Houston to the Hudson, we have been traveling on the Intercoastal Waterway. North on the Hudson through the Erie Canal to Oswego on Lake Ontario. The Canadian route through the Trent Severn canal to the Georgian Bay, the North Channel on to Lake Michigan. Once we leave Lake Michigan, we will start south on the Illinois River, Mississippi River, Ohio River, Tennessee to the Tombigbee, then back to Mobile Bay. Once we reach Mobile Bay we will have completed our Great Loop.

In August 2004 we began our Great Loop Journey by purchasing the Lucky Star, a 1988, 50 foot Marine Trader. After visiting the Miami and Palm Beach Boat shows, reading numerous boating books and magazines, the dream started to become a reality. This classic boat was found in Houston where we purchased it. We spent a good part of 2005 refurbishing, learning the ways of the waters, and how to maneuver a large boat. We were fortunate to keep the Lucky Star during this time in Seabrook, TX, on the Galveston Bay. We met many wonderful people in the marina that are now dear friends, we were so lucky to find such a great place to begin this journey.
